Oahu
Weather
Like
the other Hawaiian islands, Oahu weather does not vary enough
to define 4 separate seasons.
Weather in Oahu is best described in terms
of just winter and summer and even the peak of these seasons have only
moderate changes in temperatures. The summer season weather runs from
May to October, while the somewhat cooler, wetter winter season weather
extends from November through April.

The day-time high temperatures in Honolulu during the summer range from
an average of 85 to 87 degrees F (29.4-30.6 C) with night-time lows
of 70 to 74 (21.1-23.3 C). Winter day-time weather high temperatures
in the city are 70 to 74 degrees F (21.1-23.3 C) and night-time weather
lows are 65 to 69 degrees (18.3-20.6 C). Travelers may want to pack
a light jacket and pants for strolling on the cooler winter evenings.
Hikers planning to trek through some of Oahu's higher elevations should
be aware that there is a 3.5 degree drop in temperature for every thousand
foot rise above sea level. Its a good idea then to carry along a couple
of layers of light clothing for these higher elevations, especially
in the winter weather months.
Oahu
summer months tend to be mostly sunny to partly cloudy throughout the
island, while the winter months bring an increase of clouds and weather
and periodic rain showers, particularly to the island's north shore
area. The winter showers do not normally disrupt vacationer's plans
because there are relatively few periods of prolonged rain.
Around
Oahu
Weather here also varies considerably between regions because of the
combined effects of the moist northeasterly trade winds and the island's
mountain ranges. These mountains draw the moisture out of the trade
winds, resulting in rainfall on their higher elevations and northerly
slopes. For this reason, weather can vary considerably across the island.
An example of this can be seen in Waikiki which receives on average
only 25 inches of rain annually, while the upper Manoa Valley in the
mountains just 5 miles north receive an average of 158 inches of rain
annually. Because the weather is so localized, in most instances, you
are never more than a convenient drive away from a dry sunny beach along
a sheltered coast.
